Long-term Rooms

Purpose:   to provide study space for extended time periods in support of the information needs and research activities of the faculty, graduate and professional students in the COALS, CVM and HSC.

Student Semester Rooms: 
  • 18 individual study rooms available for semester check out in the Fall and Spring semester.
    Check out is for one semester only.
  • Long-term check out is limited to professional and graduate students in the COALS, CVM, and HSC.
  • Applications are available at Client Services Desk at the beginning of Fall and Spring semester.
  • If the number of applicants exceeds the number of rooms, a random drawing will make assignments.
  • Any unassigned carrels will be added to the daily use study room list.
  • Contact the Client Services Desk for more information and for application dates.
Faculty Long-term Rooms:
  • There are 5 faculty/staff long-term individual study rooms.
  • They may be check out at any time during the year for variable time periods.
  • Inquire at the Client Services Desk, 979-845-7428.
General Policies:
  • Tobacco products are not permitted.
  • Rooms are not soundproof, the noise rules still apply.
  • LIBRARY MATERIALS LEFT IN THE STUDY CARRELS MUST BE CHECKED OUT.
    All materials not properly checked out will be removed and reshelved.
  • NOTHING IS PERMITTED ON THE WALLS OR THE WINDOWS.
  • No personal electric cooling or heating devices are allowed in the rooms.
  • Repeated violation of the above policies will result in loss of privileges.
  • The Medical Sciences Library is not responsible for items left in carrels.*
When your time is up:
  • A letter will be placed in each room providing a date by which the key must be returned.
  • If you plan to or have applied for the next semester drawing, you must notify the Client Services Desk.
    At that time, the return date for your key will be extended until after the drawing.
  • Failure to return your key by the stated date will result in suspension of your privileges at the Medical Sciences Library as well as a hold being placed on your official TAMU records.

*Please be aware that the staff of the Medical Sciences Library retains the right to enter the carrel to check for books not properly checked out, remove window coverings, and other necessities.  Physical Plant personnel may be in to replace light fixtures or work on the heating/cooling system.  Custodial personnel are responsible for the removal of trash.  These carrels are for your use, but please use discretion when leaving personal items in your carrel.
