Get Books Shipped

Who can request items shipped to their address?

  • HSC Faculty, staff, students NOT at the College Station campus.
  • College of Medicine residents NOT in the Bryan/College Station area.
  • HSC faculty, staff, and students at College Station must pick up books at MSL.

What can MSL ship to me?

  • Any item available for checkout at the Medical Sciences Library, MSL Catalog.
  • Any item available for checkout at the other Texas A & M Libraries (College Station Campus), LibCat.
  • Any item available for borrowing from any other library world wide.

Things MSL will not send

  • MSL does not loan or borrow any book that is required for a class.
    It is up to the student to purchase required textbooks.
  • Items MSL has on reserve or in reference cannot be shipped.
  • If it is not a required textbook for a class, we will attempt to get it from another library.

How do I request a book from MSL or any other library?

  • Make requests through the Medical Sciences Library Get it for me system.
  • New users must register to create an account.
    **Be sure the service you register for is the Medical Sciences Library Get it for me**
  • Log in to your Get it for me account.
  • Click on request a book and fill in the form as completely as possible.
  • Submit the form.
  • You will be notified by email when the item is ready to be shipped.
  • Be sure your email address in Get it for me is one that you check frequently.

What is Get It?

  • Only books in LibCat have a Get It: 2 days button.
    LibCat is the general library catalog and does not have many of the medical resources found in the Medical Sciences Library catalog.
  • MSL does not have a similar service, because our collection is smaller and specialized.
  • HSC faculty/staff/students and COM residents outside College Station can use Get It to request books from LibCat.
    Books will be shipped to the address entered in Get it for me. (Have you registered?)
  • Get a book using Get it for me.
Click on Get It:  2 days button at the bottom of the book information page
Log into Get it for me.
Verify the information.
Submit the request.
The book will be sent to MSL and MSL will ship the book to your address in Get it for me.
Shipping times vary.
You should receive the book within 7 to 10 working days if it is available on the shelf.

    How MSL sends items

    • MSL gets the items off our shelves, or from another library.
    • MSL or TAMU Libraries items are checked out to your library account.
    • Items from non-TAMU libraries are NOT associated with your library account, but are associated with your Get it for me account.
    • The item and a labeled and stamped return mailer will be sent to the address you list in Get it for me.

    • The mailing instruction will be attached to the return packaging and can be found here.

    Returning an item to MSL

    • Remove the instruction from the return mailer.
    • Slide item into padded mailer.
    • Pull off white protection strip and seal.
    • Return to MSL through US mail.

    Renewing a TAMU Libraries or MSL book

    **Recalled, past due, or items already renewed twice, cannot be renewed**
    • Look for the library stamp on the page edges, inside the from cover or somewhere on the item.
    • For MSL books, go to the MSL Catalog
    • For other TAMU Library books, go to LibCat.
      TAMU Libraries are: West Campus Library , Evans Library and Policy Sciences & Economics Library
    • Click on "My Library Record."
    • Log in with your NetID and password or your UIN and last name.
    • Scroll down to the "Charged items" section.
    • Check the boxes in front of the items you wish to renew.
    • Click the Renew Items button.

    Can I renew a book that is not from MSL or the TAMU Libraries?

    • Some, but not all books borrowed from non-TAMU libraries may be renewed.
    • Renewal requests MUST be sent THREE DAYS prior to the due date from you Get it for me account.
    • Log in to MSL Get it for me and select View/Renew Checked Out Items button under the View Requests section of the page.
    • MSL will request a renewal from the lending library and will notify you by email ONLY if the request is denied.
      Making a renew request does not guarantee that the renewal will be granted.
    • If you do not recieve a renewal denied email in three days, check the due date status by logging into MSL Get it for me and select View/Renew Checked Out Items button under the View Requests section of the page.
