MSL Semester Carrel Policy

About Semester Carrels

  • The Medical Sciences Library has identified 18 individual study rooms (carrels) that may be reserved on a semester basis.
  • The primary purpose is to provide study space for extended time periods in support of the information needs and research activities.
  • Semester carrels are available to the following:
    • All students in a major degree program in
      • Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences
      • Medicine
      • Nursing
      • Pharmacy
      • School of Public Health
    • Graduate students in a major degree program in
      • College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
      • Department of Health & Kinesiology.

Study carrels are assigned for a one-semester period only. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of carrels, a drawing will be held to make the assignments. Any unassigned carrels will be added to the daily use carrel list.

Please be aware that the staff of the Medical Sciences Library retains the right to enter the carrel at any time. Physical Plant personnel may also enter to replace light fixtures or work on the heating/cooling system. Custodial personnel are responsible for the removal of trash. These carrels are for your use, but please use discretion when leaving personal items in your carrel. The Medical Sciences Library is not responsible for items left in the carrels.

Guidelines

  • Carrels are not soundproof, so please remember the noise rules apply to carrel holders.
  • Library materials left in study carrels must be checked out, or they will be removed and re-shelved.
  • Nothing is permitted on the walls or windows. Window coverings will be removed by the library staff.
  • Carrel keys must be returned to the Client Services Desk at the end of each semester.
    The due date of your carrel key will be shown on your Medical Sciences Library record.
    Failure to return your key by the stated date will result in a suspension of your privileges at the Medical Sciences Library,
    as well as a block being placed on your official Texas A&M records.
    Replacement cost for lost carrel key is $10.00.
  • Any violation of the above policies could result in loss of carrel privileges.
